After a quick discussion about when Christmas decorations should come down, our hosts then got down to business! Patch and Sara clarified that they have laser focused the purpose and method of the podcast, complete with a new intro. Dreams are still at the center of the podcast, but now we will alternate weeks, focusing on analyzing and interpreting a dream one week, then discussing another spiritual topic the next. Moving on, we are discussing a dream about being chased. That’s a common theme, but this one has a twist!
Dream About Being Chased
This week, a listener sent in a dream from his childhood in which a witch was chasing him through the library! She finally cornered him. He tried to scream, but nothing would come out. This was because he was in a library, of course. It’s scary enough to dream about being chased already. Try doing it without the ability to yell for help!
Analysis of a Dream About Being Chased
Sara started the analysis when she observed that kids are very concerned with following rules. In the dream, the kid’s fear of breaking library rules somehow even trumped the danger of the witch chasing him. Patch mentioned that we attach a lot of rules to the context we exist in, such as library noise ordinances. During this dream, both the library’s rules and the witch physically trapping him against the wall limited him. He needs to ask himself what rules are limiting him in life.
Sara then mentioned the importance of giving yourself permission, as an adult, to make your own rules. The dreamer is no longer a kid, so the real limitations sensed in his youth are just an illusion today. In what areas do you feel trapped and afraid?
Patch had a light bulb moment when he observed that a library is a vast, organized collection of knowledge, possibly representing a seemingly unshakeable structure in the dreamer’s life. What could the witch represent? Mythologically, people often connect witches often associate witches with nature. There is a conflict here between sturdy, unchanging structure and wild, unfettered nature. Analyzing this conflict isn’t about choosing one over the other. Rather, it is about finding balance in life between the two.
Dream dictionaries will not steer you where you need to go, since everyone’s experience is different. A dream about being chased may mean different things to different people. Therefore, there is no fit-all interpretation. Dream work means going in as deep as you can into yourself. Therefore, effective dream analysis will lead you to a new understanding of your situation.
