Dream Lovers Episode 8: Identity Crisis Dreams

Identity Crisis Dreams - what do they mean?Sara started the episode by drawing the “Winter’s Dream Gestation Period” card from Shaman’s Dream Oracle deck. The card beckons the reader to turn inward to the hidden places in their heart in order to find peace. Set priorities now, for the time for action is in the future. All things are borne from dreams, and the card encourages the reader to practice lucid dreaming in order to direct their own path. Patch pointed out that the card segues perfectly into our listener’s example of identity crisis dreams.

Identity Crisis Dreams – Listener’s Dream Story

When the listener’s dream starts out, she is in a hurry to leave the house because of an emergency. However, she was dawdling, trying to decide what to wear. She asked herself if she should put on something practical,  something cute, or something more “me”? Her family shouted at her to hurry, since this was an emergency. She was very frustrated at herself because she couldn’t decide under such extreme pressure.

Dream Analysis of Identity Crisis Dreams

Patch stepped in with his analysis. Emergency could mean something different to everyone. Since the listener did not specify what the dream’s emergency was, he encourages the rest of us to project our own. What pressing, time sensitive events are active in our lives that we could connect to this dream?

The dreamer found it funny that she would think of what to wear in such a situation, since she should be in a hurry to get out the door, not mulling her fashion choices. There is, however, some meaning to this paradoxical situation. Sara pointed out the different choices the dreamer was mulling over. The dreamer feels pressured to leave out something that expresses herself. Our hosts want the dreamer to identify the areas in her life where this is happening. Are these situations really emergencies? It is important to identify priorities here. Why would she have to choose between, practical, cute, and “me”?  Why can’t she have all of these things in one?

Patch points out that Jung sees our clothes as metaphors for our identities. They are the most basic form of self expression. When the world looks at our outward appearance, what persona do they see? We feel like we have to compromise, rather than totally be ourselves. The dreamer felt under pressure, but by whom? In reality, who is pressuring us to compromise ourselves, threatening to not love and accept us as we are? Patch concludes that the practical choice is rarely the right one. Surround yourself with a small core of people whose opinions are really worthy of your attention, and forget the rest.

But wisdom unapplied is like a TV playing in the background – it’s just noise.

Sara’s superpower is seeing people’s blindspots and then helping them to move past them quickly. She helps dreamers understand HOW to take the guidance and wisdom they receive and implement it in their waking life to co-create their desired reality. She helps people reach new levels of both personal and spiritual expansion.
