Sara starts off the episode by pulling the “Whale Song” card from the deck. Just like a whale calls out in their song for another whale to respond in harmony, your higher self is calling to you. You may recognize this when you feel a sense of deja vu amidst the daily life and the blocks you have let limit you. Dig deeper and explore the song you are hearing, and find out how to respond. Your heart is calling, so you should answer it.
Explaining The Higher Self
Patch explains that different thinkers call this concept by different names. Whether they refer to it as the higher self, Jungian self, daemon, future self, or dreaming self, it all means the same thing. His study of the higher self began with reading Carl Jung, then branched out into his fascination with dreams. Specifically, Patch was taken by the idea of a newborn being a perfect, blank slate, with unlimited potential. What we are told by the world as we grow is what forms our personality. Sara interjects that this is truthfully a series of trauma responses. Yikes!
The first half of life is building personality. Jung explains that the second half is trying to get back to the wholeness that we are born with. This second half is triggered when our personality is injured. Some factors that could cause this include losing a job, severe illness, or just a frustration with the inability to advance our careers to the level we desire. The higher self is who we are deep down that actually realizes our potential.
The Higher Self Calls to Us in Dreams
Patch explains that the higher self speaks to us through our dreams. It beckons us to become whole again. Sara explains how hypnosis is a tool that can help us more directly and purposefully tap into it. Patch expands, with Carl Jung quotes, which Sara elaborates on. The idea is not becoming something else, but rather unlearning your bad habits in order to join the two parts. Are you having recurring dreams? When that is happening, it always means you’re not getting the message!
When Patch brings up Taylor Swift’s re-recording of Red, a spirited debate erupts. Sara then attacks the controversy from all angles, since TikTok has gone wild over it. Many have called T-Swift out, signaling that it shows a lack of emotional maturity to still be fixated on the three month tryst the record addresses. Could this be a strictly misogynistic call-out (“Women are too emotional and can’t let go”)? Is Patch a product of a culture that suppresses male emotional expression? Regardless, it is an important album that addresses some critical issues.
After the detour, Sara steers the conversation back to Patch’s recurring dream. Patch’s higher self is calling to him to feel his feelings and let it be okay for their son to as well.
Finally, Patch wraps up with one last Jung quote, which says we find our higher self when our unconscious and our conscious meet. When this happens, we transcend our sex, race, and other human trappings, becoming godlike. This can be dangerous. We must not let this enlightenment trick us into feeling better than anyone else. Everyone possesses an equal, but unique, and true, higher self, and we can all reach this actualization if we try.

More about Patch and Sara
Patch and Sara Drury have teamed up assist you in tapping into your own inner wisdom through learning the language of dreams.
Patch is fluent in dream language. He has studied story and mythology, as well as archetypal imagery for years. This is how our dreams communicate with us. One of his deep-set skills, or superpowers, is translating the imagery and metaphors of dreams. Then, we can make sense of what messages they have for us. But wisdom unapplied is like a TV playing in the background – it’s just noise.
Sara’s superpower is seeing people’s blind spots and then helping them to move past them quickly. She helps dreamers understand HOW to take the guidance and wisdom they receive and implement it in their waking life to co-create their desired reality. She helps people reach new levels of both personal and spiritual expansion.
