Dream Lovers Podcast Episode 11: Patch’s Dream About Aliens Outside the Church

For a change of pace, we’re journeying to Patch’s subconscious (yikes!) to analyze one of his dreams. This one is a doozy – a dream about aliens outside the church!

Dream About Aliens – The Whole Story

Before Patch starts the story of his dream about aliens, Sara must pull this week’s card from the Shaman’s Dream Oracle deck. The card is the Benefactor. Do good things for others unselfishly, and she (the Benefactor) will bless you with good things.

Sara reads the story of Patch’s dream. He was helping install a new sound system in his childhood church. A future boss from the church he later worked with was there, even though he had no affiliation. Patch had to leave, but left some parting advice to those doing the install. He drove away, deep into the woods. It was very dark, and he could barely see where he was driving. Suddenly, thin, bug-like aliens appeared in his headlights.

Patch’s Interpretation and Analysis of His Dream About Aliens

Patch fills in a few details about himself, in order to provide context. He grew up in church, and was even working in ministry for the first several years of his relationship with Sara. Simply put, the presence of the church in his dream represents that part of Patch’s life. Since then, Patch and Sara have left the faith, but the role it played in shaping them is undeniable. The church leader present in the dream connects the two phases of ministry in Patch’s life. In both stages of life, he worked to help the church spread its message. Thus, the sound system.

In real life, when Patch left the church, he made a social media post about his exit (Editor’s note: I remember this post vividly – it was shocking to see him go, but I was one of the many positive commenters in the thread.). His parting words for the would-be sound system installers represent that post. Patch believes that his subconscious led him to leave when he left the church. In the dream, it was very dark, and his headlights could only see so far in front of him. This is a metaphor describing Patch’s post church life. As one would expect, he found it difficult at first to navigate his new path in life.

What about the aliens, then? Patch described them as looking like walking stick insects – they were unfamiliar, abnormal beasts, which blend into their woodland environment. During this period of his life, Patch dove into the writings of Carl Jung. Jung taught that our subconscious has three parts – the shadow (suppressed tendencies), anima/animus (our opposite gender representation), and the true self.

Conclusion

The dream directed Patch to explore these parts of himself and let them lead them into his new life. Sara reinforces that our dreams are here to guide us to make the right choices in our lives, and that the mission of the Dream Lovers podcast is to help listeners connect with their dreams.
