This week, Patch and Sara return to the concept of the daimon (or daemon) and how we must learn to negotiate with it. When their son’s daimon showed itself to them, it inspired their thoughts in this episode.
Initial Thoughts on the Daimon
Sara and Patch jump right into this week’s topic, discussing past episodes that touched on the subject of the daemon. Carl Jung, a philosopher who identified the unconscious mind, wishes he would have called it the daimon instead. Whether you call it the subconscious, the higher self, your purpose, or the daimon, you are correct. Sara referenced James Hillman’s book The Soul’s Code, which spotlights the “Acorn Theory”. An acorn is meant to grow into an oak tree. If it follows the plan laid out for it to reach its purpose, it will. In much the same way, your daimon guides your creativity and skills to fulfill your life’s purpose.
Jack Henry’s Daimon
Recently, Sara and Patch’s nine year old son Jack Henry set his mind on a crafting project. He made a list of supplies he would need, and the family bought them at Michael’s. When they got home, Jack started on the project right away. Jack Henry is normally an even keeled kid, but when one step went wrong, he lost it completely. Once he had settled down, Sara and Patch explained to him that sometimes we miscalculate, and we have to give ourselves permission to make mistakes. It’s easy to think that everyone else knows what they are doing, and we are the only ones messing up. However, nobody’s projects always turn out exactly how they want them to.
After this conversation, Sara and Patch recognized that Jack Henry’s daimon was making its presence known. It pushed him to express himself creatively. Sometimes our skills are not up to the level that our daimon expects them to be. Therefore, we have to negotiate with it in order to stay comfortable in the process. If we don’t temper our creative efforts by resting and recharging, we will burn out. Patch likens it to soaking up a sponge, then ringing it out, and starting over again.
Negotiating With Your Daimon for Personal Growth
We recently discussed theories of time. When we focus our mindset on the now, we are creating from the most powerful place. We connect to both the past and the future, and do our best work. The Acorn Theory states that your future self is sending back messages in order to help guide you along the path to success. We shouldn’t hate our current limited “acorn” form for not being an oak tree yet. You have everything you need for personal growth, but you need to get out of the way and allow your daimon to guide you. Sara’s Timeline Jump: Hypnosis Audio Experience is a great place to start.
